Watercolor Sketch - On the Grounds of the Elms
Watercolor in Canson Montval All-Media sketchbook, 90-lb CP paper, page approx. 9" x 12", sketch 6" x 9" (15.2 x 22.8 cm). Pigma Micron 03 pen.
Sketched on the grounds of the Elms Resort & Spa in Excelsior Springs, MO.
My wife and I traveled to Excelsior Springs, MO this past weekend to attend this month's sketchcrawl hosted by Kate Johnson. We met at the Elms Resort & Spa at 1:00 pm CDT, which was a beautiful, historic hotel with lovely grounds. There were three of us in all, including Kate, and we set out upon the grounds of the hotel to pick a spot at which to sketch & paint. I picked this old set of stairs to sketch; it was behind a large gazebo in which a couple of weddings were taking place that day. The cottonwood was really flying; at one point, I looked up into the sky and it looked like it was snowing!
At about 3:30 pm, we convened back in the hotel for a cold soda and to chat about art, our sketchbooks, and whatever else came up. Kate is a wonderful host, and a wonderful artist; check out her work if you get a chance--you won't be disappointed!
