Watercolor Sketch - Test of Jagged Fan Brush
Watercolor in Aquabee 808 Super Deluxe sketchbook, 93-lb paper, approx. 6 x 9" (15.2 x 22.9 cm).
I bought an inexpensive fan brush today with the intent to use it to create grass effects. I took scissors and gave the brush a "haircut," creating a jagged, irregular edge. I first saw this tip in Kate Johnson's "
"Painting Watercolors" book, and I've been meaning to try it for a long time now.
For the quickie landscape sketch above, I used a scratch page in my Aquabee sketchbook; you can still see the abandoned start of an ink sketch and a waterfastness test of two Sanford uni-ball pens.
I'm liking the results that the brush gives, and I'm looking forward to using it on some more formal paintings.
